How to Make Your Church AutismFriendly edition by Stephen J Bedard Health Fitness Dieting eBooks
As Manager of Pastoral Ministries with a large faith-based developmental services organization, I am well aware of the profound need for churches to welcome families and people impacted by autism. It's not something we have done well in many cases. Not only do these families suffer as a result, but the church suffers in not experiencing the fullness of the Body of Christ. Stephen's book is a start in changing all of that. I say "a start" because the aim of the book is not to be comprehensive. There are longer books, such as Barbara Newman's "Autism and Your Church" for that. For many of the pastors and lay leaders I have spoken with, however, they are not looking for 'comprehensive'. In the initial stages of welcoming people with autism, they are looking for a quick and accessible starting point for engaging with people and their families. Stephen's book does just this. Even the language is accessible and easy to understand, and the personal stories where he vulnerably exposes the grief, challenges, doubts and rewards of having two children with autism and being a pastor give his advice and tips credibility and engage the reader in a powerful way. I read the book from start to finish in one sitting. Which wasn't difficult, because it took less than half an hour. You should too!Product details
